On 10 January 2017, BuzzFeed published a 35-page dossier of classified documents that claimed Russia had compromising personal and financial information about Donald Trump. It was the beginning of a huge controversy between US journalists and media experts. Some were supportive of BuzzFeed’s decision to publish the report, others criticised it, calling it an unverified and unsubstantiated document similar to the so-called “fake news”. Five months later, Ben Smith will join us in Vienna, where he’ll explain his decision, as well as the BuzzFeed editorial strategy for the upcoming years.
